1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup Sucanat (or organic sugar)

1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees if making cookie bars – 400 degrees if making cookies.

In a medium-sized bowl, mix the melted butter, sugar, and molasses. (Use the butter wrapper to grease your 9×13-inch glass baking dish!)

Add the egg and vanilla, mix well.

Add the whole wheat flour, baking soda, and salt, mix well.

Mix in the chocolate chips.

For cookie Bars: Spread in a greased 9×13-inch glass baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until lightly browned.

For cookies: Drop by tablespoons onto greased cookie sheets. Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned.

    1. I just made 3 batches and I ended up with 63 big cookies. 36 of those will go to our Youth Rally tomorrow night and the remaining is for our enjoyment here at home :-). Thanks so much for posting this! They are delicious!
      1. I am SO glad you liked them! Can I come over for some cookies and milk tonight? Just kidding...I need to make some for my kiddos too! Have a great evening!
  1. Do they really come out that fluffy? I've had trouble with cookies falling flat like crackers. Even the break and bake from the store. Not sure what the problem is, although I suspect it's my oven not heating up properly and so cooking too slowly.
    1. Hi Stacey! What I have found is that if my dough is stiffer the cookies are much more fluffy and not flattened out. The key is the butter needs to harden up a bit. Usually when I make cookies, I find the last pan is much better because the butter has had some time to harden a bit in the dough. So I would either let the dough sit for a bit, or refrigerator for a bit to harden up the dough before baking. I hope you like these!
