I wanted to share our family’s favorite beverage…and it is GOOD for us!
I started making homemade lemonade several years ago and it has slowly replaced all other beverages we drink (except water, milk, and juice). My husband and kids love it. The lemon juice is good for my husband’s problem with kidney stones too!
It is best to use fresh lemons (it takes 4 lemons to make a 2-quart pitcher of lemonade), but I often use 1/2 cup lemon juice instead. It works great too. I have never used honey to sweeten it, but like to use the Sweet Leaf Stevia-Lemon Drop flavor. I found this very reasonable at VitaCost online. Their prices are very reasonable and they have a set shipping price so you can order several bottles for the same shipping price. I like to order 5 bottles at a time to save! (Plus, see the note below that explains how you can receive a $10 credit at Vitacost that you can use on your first order!)
So…why not give homemade lemonade a try? It is SO much better for you and your kids than pop or Kool-aid! Here is the recipe…
- Juice from 4 lemons (or 1/2 cup lemon juice)
- filtered water to make 2 quarts
- 1/2 cup honey (or 3-4 dropper-fuls of SweetLeaf Liquid Stevia-Lemon Drop flavor for a calorie-free version!)
To make, squeeze the juice from 4 lemons and pour the juice into your 2-quart pitcher. Mix ½ cup honey into 1 cup of warm filtered water until dissolved (or just add 3-4 dropper-fuls of SweetLeaf Liquid Stevia-Lemon Drop, see note below). Add this to the pitcher. Add enough filtered water to fill it up.
Stir it all up and chill in the refrigerator.
Note: If you want a sugar-free, calorie-free option, add 3 dropper-fuls of the SweetLeaf Liquid Stevia (Lemon Drop flavor) to your pitcher instead of the honey.
