Caramel Apple Smoothie in jar on table

Everyone loved the Apple Pie Smoothie (E) from last week, so you are going to love this one too! I had the brilliant idea of making another apple smoothie…except this one is a Caramel Apple Smoothie!

Sugar-Free with Sheri

Since you use a whole apple in this recipe, it is considered an “E” meal for those of you eating the THM way. As the cool fall weather is settling in I am just loving all the apple recipes.  I hope you enjoy this one too!

  1. Just made these tonight after a particularly unsatisfying E meal ;) and wanted something to try to redeem it. My husband declared that this was his new favorite smoothie. I'm a bit of a harder sell, I must admit, as I am a huge sugar addict and am only on day 2 of trying to retrain myself, but I think it will grow on me even more. I liked it, but, well, I still need to retrain myself. ;) I, too, used some not so great for me caramel sauce that I want to finish (It is sugar free but has - gasp! - agave and brown rice syrup in it. I know, I know....), as well as 1 tsp. caramel extract to go with the 1 tbsp. syrup. It was actually really tasty until I added the protein powder - I'm pretty sure the powder we have is not amazing and spoils everything. :/ Still, my husband thought this was the best one he's had, so it's a keeper! Thanks for sharing!
    1. Hi Christie, So glad you guys liked the smoothie! Just keep playing around with it and find a way to fix it that you like. That is half the fun -- coming up with your own version!
    1. Hi Cayley, You can use it as a complete meal, which I have done many times, or use as an afternoon snack. Since it is an E, you just have to be careful not to eat it too close to an S meal. Enjoy!
    1. Hi Sherry, I would use about 1/4 teaspoon. As far as sweetener, maybe start with a few shakes of the powdered Stevia or a couple tablespoons of Truvia. Taste test after you add and if it needs to be sweeter, just add a bit more until it tastes sweet enough to you. I tend to like it sweet, so I add more until it tastes good to me. Enjoy!
  2. Your smoothie recipes look like they'd taste great! What would you recommend to replace almond milk? I recently learned that I am allergic to soy and tree nuts and have tried using coconut milk but smoothies just isnt nearly as good or have the right consistency.
    1. Hi Jess, I did some asking on the THM facebook group to get some ideas for you. One lady had the idea of flax milk. You can buy it but it is pretty expensive. You can make your own too. Here is a recipe to try: https://www.healthfulpursuit.com/2012/04/homemade-flax-milk/. It has dates in it that you may want to leave out. I think they are only for sweetening, so just use some stevia instead. I have no idea what flax milk tastes like, but you could try a batch and see how it works. Another idea that was mentioned was Hemp Milk. I hope that gives you a couple other options to try out! Have a great day!
    2. What about oat milk? I saw some in the store the other day - no idea what it would taste like, but it would keep it in an E fuel I think?
      1. Hi Christie, I don't know about oat milk. It would be higher in carbs, which would be ok for an E meal. I guess give it a try! Cashew milk is also good. My husband likes that better than almond milk. But that would be more toward an S though.
  3. I found this recipe via Pinterest. I made it this morning, and it is so yummy! Thank you for sharing!
    1. I'm glad you liked it Toni! Be sure to check out my other THM recipes! All my THM posts are linked up here: https://sherigraham.com/trim-healthy-mama-recipes-list. Have a GREAT day!
  4. This recipe looks amazing. What brand of protein powder could I use if I prefer to buy things in person? I live in Ontario, Canada. I also am very new to THM, don't have a powerful blender, and don't know where to get half of these ingredients.
    1. I know the THM book refers to a brand of whey protein powder that you can find at health food stores. I don't have a very powerful blender either, but I make it work. I know my smoothies aren't as smooth as they could be, but that's ok. They still taste great. Just get by with what you have until you can afford a nicer blender. I know some of the ingredients are hard to find..ordering online is about the easiest. Some things can be found in health food stores at higher prices. So..take a look at the health food stores locally and see what you find. You can always ask the owners to consider carrying items they don't have. Sometimes that works too. Hope that helps!
  5. This is so good! I'm just wondering what kind of sugar-free caramel syrup you used. I used Caribou's, but it does have Splenda in it, which isn't on plan.
    1. I think I do have the Caribou's caramel (my parents gave it to me). Yes it does have Splenda and I normally wouldn't use it but I just wanted to use it up. When I am done with that I plan on using the caramel extract and extra stevia!
        1. I use a caramel flavored stevia drop by "sweetleaf". Called sweet drops! You can get them on Amazon!
    1. Yeah Collette! You are going to LOVE the Caramel Apple one too! Have a great day.
  6. I was just thinking about how I could make a caramel apple shake/frozen yogurt. I'm so glad I found this via pinterest. :)
  7. I love pumpkin and apple recipes! Bring 'em on! And I know I would have TOO much fun blending up that whole apple in my Blendtec. Ha, ha! :-) Thanks for linking at Trim Healthy Tuesday!
