Apple Pie Smoothie in jar on table

NOTE:  I originally posted this recipe as a FP, but it is a bit too high in carbs. So now I am changing it to an E.  If you want it to be a FP, then just eat half the recipe and you will be fine!  Enjoy!

APPLE PIE SMOOTHIE (E)

1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/2 cup water
1 Tablespoon cinnamon
1 Tablespoon vanilla
1-2 cups ice
1 scoop whey protein
NuNaturals to taste

Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.

Serves: 1

This makes a huge smoothie (more than one quart if you use 2 cups of ice) but it is SO delicious!  Enjoy!

  1. Yummy! Very pregnant and hot during the summer time. I needed a new shake and this was great. Thanks.
  2. I must have a problem with whey. I have tried several and spent $$$ and had to do away with them. Can we use collagen or maybe cottage cheese in it's place? Trying so hard to get it right and back on track!
    1. Hi DEborah, I believe you can use collagen as a substitute. Give it a try and see how it works. I also add a bit of cottage cheese sometimes in my smoothies, so you could do that too. They key is to get that protein into your meal.
    1. Hi Cindy, You could probably use another protein powder, but the whey protein powder is really the best. You could just leave it out, but the consistency of the smoothie will be different and you won't have the protein that you need in the shake.
  3. Wow--was anyone else's watery and strong on the whey powder flavor--was expecting more of a thicker drink, too...think I might not do the water next time--I like to eat my smoothies, lol.
      1. I tried adding more ice--it didn't seem to help--I'm wondering if it was the applesauce now cause it just had a funky runny weird taste and it was an odd consistency that wasn't normal for all of the other recipes I've used and so I think I'm going to try it again with a different brand of applesauce. We love apple pie, so I'm sure it isn't the recipe, but something that wasn't gelling with my attempt for some reason. :)
    1. Hi Lorili, Yes, only using 2 T. applesauce would lower the carbs alot and it could be a FP. However, it may not have a lot of apple taste! Give it a try and see!
  4. Cinnamon is very overpowering, took me forever to finish drinking this smoothie. Will try again with less cinnamon.
  5. I am glad to add this to my shake and smoothie arsenal! I made this today and it was very good. I will cut back the cinnamon to 2 teaspoons next time to adjust it better to my taste. Thanks!
  6. Sheri, I was a bit skeptical of how good this could be....but it was super yummy!!! All my children loved it too!! It really does make you think of apple pie (and ice cream). YUM!!
  7. Made this today....it tastes really good, but the cinnamon is quite over powering. Just want to double check...is it supposed to be 1 Tablespoon of cinnamon or 1 teaspoon. 1 Tablespoon seems like too much although I know that cinnamon is good for me.
    1. Yes, it is supposed to be 1 Tablespoon....but I like cinnamon :). If it too much for you, just cut it back to your liking. Glad you liked it!
    1. I just used what I had on hand (Great Value Walmart Brand of unsweetened applesauce). It has 22 g. of carbs per cup. So the 1/2 cup in this recipe would make it 11 g. carbs. I know that 10 g. carbs is the limit for a FP, but I thought it was close enough :). If you want to make sure, just use 1/3 cup applesauce to get it under the 10 g. carbs. Hope that helps! Oh...check the applesauce you are using because different brands may have different carb amounts.
