Homemade Ice-Cream
We have been enjoying some homemade ice-cream this summer. I used my birthday money (and some I had saved) to buy myself a Cuisinart ICE-30BC Pure Indulgence 2-Quart Automatic Frozen Yogurt, Sorbet, and Ice Cream Maker! I love it! I wanted to share with you the recipe I am using…and it tastes SO good! Enjoy!
These recipes make 2 quarts of ice-cream or frozen yogurt. You can easily double the recipe if you have a larger ice-cream maker.
Choose one of the following options and mix up well in a pitcher (so you can easily pour it into your ice-cream maker):
Recipe #1: This makes a pretty typical homemade ice-cream
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 cup half and half
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup honey or maple syrup
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
OR
Recipe #2: This recipe replaces the half and half and milk with kefir or yogurt. This option definitely has a frozen yogurt taste…yum!
2 cups heavy whipping cream
2 cups kefir or yogurt
1/2 cup honey or maple syrup
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
OR
Recipe #3: This option uses less kefir or yogurt if you don’t like the yogurt taste to be so strong
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 cup kefir or yogurt
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup honey or maple syrup
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
Stir will to mix in the honey or maple syrup, then you are ready to freeze in your Cuisinart or other ice-cream maker.
In my Cuisinart, all I do is take the canister out of the freezer, place it in the Cuisinart with the paddle in it, put the lid on top, turn it on, pour the ice-cream mixture into the canister and set my timer for 20-25 minutes. When the time goes off we have homemade ice-cream! It is especially good with some fresh strawberries on top! Enjoy!
I love homemade ice cream! I will give this a try!
We’ve just started making “ice cream”. But to make it less fattening, I’ve use one cup fat free plain yogurt, one cup low fat vanilla yogurt and 1 cup of 2% milk. I then heat the milk with a 1/3 of sugar (I guess you could use honey) on the stove over low/medium heat until the sugar dissolves. This is where it gets fun. One time I put 1/4 of Ghirradelli hot cocoa mix in with it and heated till combined. Another time I put peanut butter in it. This is after I made just plain ol’ vanilla using vanilla extract. Then I take that mixture and and mix it with the yogurt, blend it thoroughly and then put it in the ice cream maker. I personally love the yogurt tartness but my two youngest don’t. So I make it often because more for me! LOL!
Sorry for the post within a comment. LOL!
I think I’m going to make some tonight.
HUGS!
Hi Kim, That sounds so good! Thanks for the ideas! I’m thinking maybe some peanut butter and small chocolate chips…yum!
