Natural Body Care: Hair Shampoo

I tried to make homemade shampoo once.  It was a total flop!  I still have not found a recipe for a homemade shampoo that I like and feel really works.  So…I have gone the route of finding a natural store-bought shampoo.

For now I am using Giovanni 50-50 Balanced Hydrating Shampoo (found at Amazon here…great price!).

I want to try this recipe  for a Shampoo Bar sometime soon too, but haven’t ordered the ingredients I need to make it.

Do any of you have a good recipe for homemade shampoo?  If so, please share it in the comments section below!  I’d love to try it!  Until then…Giovanni it is!

  1. I heard of the No Shampoo Method (AKA "No Poo" method). It sounded weird at first, but I did some research and decided to try it. It's been about a year since I started, and it's been the best thing I've ever done for my hair. There's a lot of info about it on the web, but here's some good info to start with: https://www.naturemoms.com/no-shampoo-alternative.html Blessings in your search for what works for you!
    1. Thanks so much for the link! I've read some on the "no-poo" method using baking soda and just haven't been brave enough to try it. It sounds like it might be a good option. I'll give it a try and add my experience to this post later! Thanks again!

  2. I wanted to share with you something I learned. I was looking for something to use on my hair that was not so harsh. I would have dandruff flare-ups and had been prescribed a shampoo that was pretty harsh. I began thinking of all the uses for baking soda and wondered if it would work on the hair. I googled it and sure enough found people who posted about using it on their hair. I tried it and it worked. No more dandruff problems. It also gets rid of all the buildup from hairspray. The first week I noticed it took the shine out of my hair but I kept using it and after a week or so of using it the shine came back. PLUS, it conditions my hair too. I can comb right through it. I wash my hair every other day and that is all I use. Now, I do not have super short hair but I do not have really long hair either. I don’t know how it would do for long hair. Just probably have to use more of it. I just pour some in my palm and then run it through my hair and scrub.
    1. Thanks for sharing Julie. I haven't been brave enough to try the baking soda. Maybe I should! It sounds so easy. Thanks again for sharing your experience.
