Make fixing smoothies easier with this idea!

My kids love it when I make smoothies to go with our breakfasts and it is a GREAT way for me to get some more fruits and vegetables in them each day.  But…I hate to admit that many days I don’t feel like going to all the work to get everything out and into the blender to make them.

So I came up with an idea (I’m sure it is not original) to make up packets with everything that I put into the smoothies and store them in the freezer.  That way I can just pull a bag out of the freezer in the morning, dump it into the blender, add the liquid and sweetener, blend, and it is ready!

You can see what we like in our smoothies by looking at the picture above.  Here is what is in the bag:

  • 2 good handfuls of spinach
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 2-3 cups frozen mixed fruit
  • 1 handful of baby carrots

In the morning I take the bag out of the freezer and dump it into my blender.  I put the lid on and let it sit and thaw a bit while I fix the rest of our breakfast.

When I am ready to make the smoothies, I add in a couple cups of water, some orange juice, and some lemon drop stevia (a couple droppers full).  Just blend and keep adding more liquid as needed until it is the desired consistency.  The liquid can be juice, water, yogurt, etc.  Use whatever you like!

Depending on the size of your blender, this recipe may be too much.  But you can make up your own by just taking the recipe that your family likes and putting all the fruit and vegetables in a freezer bag.  You could even make up different kinds of smoothies with different variations of fruits and vegetables.

I made up several bags at once and put them in the freezer.  It is so nice to have these ready to pull out and make into some yummy, nutritious smoothies for my family.

Why don’t you give it a try?  Happy smoothie making!

I love this idea! My kids aren't big smoothie fans but I am, and it will encourage me to have more variety in my smoothies if I have them pre-mixed.
