Macaroni and Cheese – My New Recipe!

This past week I decided to make some macaroni and cheese for dinner (with some chopped up ham mixed in..yum!). Â Well, I did not have a few ingredients from the recipe that I normally use, so I decided to just change up the recipe a bit (I am famous for that in my house!). Â I just used whole milk and totally deleted the cheddar cheese. Â This is the recipe I made (below) and we actually liked it better! Â So…I thought I’d pass it on to you to try. Â I like to buy the Great Value brand whole wheat macaroni noodles from Walmart that cost just over $1. Â One box is about 4 cups and is just right to feed our family of 7. Â Give it a try! Â Mix in sone chopped ham or tuna and peas for some yummy variations. Â Enjoy!
HOMEMADE MACARONI AND CHEESE – MY NEW RECIPE!
- 4 cups elbow pasta, uncooked (you can use whole wheat pasta for a healthier option)
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup whole milk
- 16 slices of American cheese
- salt & pepper to taste
- Additional milk as needed
Cook elbow pasta for 8-10 minutes or until tender. Drain and return to pan.
Add in the rest of the ingredients and stir over medium low heat until the cheese is melted. Add in more milk if the macaroni is too thick.
Turn off the heat, put a cover on the pan, and let sit for about 5 minutes before serving.
