Easy Homemade Bread for Beginners

I wanted to share a recipe that I got from a friend a few years ago. She called it Tupperware Bread…and you’ll find out why when you read the directions. This would be a great recipe for those that have never made bread before or don’t have a nice big heavy-duty mixer to knead the bread in (like the Bosch). This bread is so easy to make and it makes great rolls. I used to use this recipe to make hot pockets with and it worked great. I can’t remember if I made actual loaves of bread with it, but I’m sure you could give it a try. It should make about 3 to 4 loaves of bread.

I would also note that when I made this recipe I only used unbleached white flour. I’m not sure it would work with all whole wheat flour. You may be able to do part whole wheat, but you may need to add extra yeast. But…for those that would like to start making your own bread, begin by using unbleached white flour first. Then when you get confident with that, you can do some experimenting!

Ok…here is the recipe (Be sure to follow the directions EXACTLY! There is one place where it tells you NOT TO STIR it up…so watch for that when you make it!):

Tupperware Bread

Great for hot pockets or rolls!

Put 9 cups unbleached white flour in a large bowl (use a bowl with a lid), make a well in the center.

In a separate bowl beat 4 eggs, then add 1/2 cup sugar and 4 1/2 teaspoons yeast.

In another bowl, scald 1 1/2 cups milk in microwave for 3 minutes. Then add 1 1/2 cups water. Add this mixture to the egg mixture. Stir in 1 teaspoon salt. Mix all ingredients well. Pour this mixture into well of flour in the large bowl. DO NOT STIR. Put lid on and let sit for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes is over, add 2 sticks of melted butter and mix well.

Cover and let sit for another 30 minutes. Then you are ready to make bread, rolls, or hot pockets. This dough will be very sticky, so you will knead it on a lightly floured surface a few times before shaping for bread or rolls.

TO MAKE BREAD: If making loaves of bread, simply shape loaves and place in greased bread pans. Allow to rise in a warm place for 30-40 minutes, then bake in a 350 degree oven for about 20-25 minutes or until lightly browned.

TO MAKE ROLLS: If making rolls, simply shape dough into rolls and place in greased pans to raise. Cook as above.

TO MAKE HOT POCKETS:

1. Pull off a round of dough about the size of a baseball and flatten on counter.
2. Place about 1/2 cup of mixture in the middle of the hot pocket.
3. Bring opposite sides together and pinch together. Then do the same with the other two sides.
4. Place with seam sides down onto greased cookie sheet.
5. Let rise for 30-40 minutes and then bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes.

Mixture ideas:
Sloppy joe (hamburger, ketchup, BBQ sauce)
Pizza (hamburger, pepperoni, sausage, pizza sauce, cheese)
Breakfast (egg, ham, sausage, cheese, green pepper, onion, etc.)
Chicken (cubed cooked chicken, cooked mixed veggies, cream of chicken soup)

This recipe makes about 30-36 hot pockets.

Tip: Once they are baked and cooled, you can freeze these! Simply warm them up in the microwave and serve with a green salad for a quick meal!

  1. Thank you for the recipe. I was just talking to my girls about needing a recipe to make bread and rolls. My kids love hotpockets too.
  2. Do you only let the dough rise for a total of 40 min? There's no first rise and second rise? Or do you let it rest in the fridge before shaping?
    1. No, read the directions carefully. At one point you let it rest for 30 minutes, then mix in the butter and rest for 30 minutes, then punch down and shape into bread, rolls, etc., and let raise another 30-40 minutes. If I remember, the dough will expand some after you add the warm milk, and then again after you add the melted butter. Just follow the directions exactly how it says. It works!
  3. I was wondering if you cool the milk and butter to a certain temperature before adding? I don't want to kill the yeast. Thank you in advance.
  4. Hi, I was wondering how much butter is 2 sticks, in NZ we get butter in 500gm blocks. Thanks, Michelle
