Natural Cleaners: Toilet Bowl Cleaner

The toilet is probably one of the least-looked-forward-to areas of the house to clean…at least it is for me!  We have very hard water here too, so if I don’t stay on top of this I have some major scrubbing to do.  So…here is what I have done to keep our toilet bowl clean.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner – I have been using equal amounts of baking soda and vinegar (about 1/2 to 3/4 cup each), mix together and put in toilet bowl (Mixing the vinegar and baking soda together will cause a reaction and the mixture will bubble up.  So put the baking soda in a bowl, hold the bowl over the toilet as you pour in the vinegar, the dump the whole mixture into the toilet).  Scrub with brush and flush.

OR

If this doesn’t do it, then I drain the water out of the bowl and scrub with some homemade soft scrub (I will post that recipe sometime soon too!)

OR

Buy some citric acid (found in grocery stores and used for marinating meats) and sprinkle some in your toilet bowl.  Allow to sit for a bit, then brush clean!  I heard this works really good but have not tried it yet.  It is on my grocery list to get some this week!

  1. This may seem like a dumb question, but do you have any ideas how to get my children's necks clean? They play out in the sand and dirt every day in the summer and their necks get so dirty and the dirt doesn't seem to come off. I have tried soap and dawn dish soap. Doesn't work. :( Thank you. Carmen
    1. Maybe try rubbing some baby oil onto the dirty spots and then washing with a washcloth. The oil may help get it off.
