As you already know, I love to read. In 2016 I read 62 books.
I thought it would be fun to go back through all the books I read this past year and choose my top 10 and share them with you. These are not in any particular order.
1. The Measure of Katie Calloway
I absolutely loved this book! It is about a woman trying to leave her past behind her and takes a job as a cook in a lumber a camp. Through it all she learns to trust in God and His amazing love and care for her. I enjoyed reading about Katie’s love for cooking good meals for the lumber camp crew and it encouraged me to focus more on fixing great meals for my family.
I love historical fiction and this was one that I could read again and again. It talks of great loss and finding the courage to trust God to guide her wherever He may lead her. This was one of my favorite and I am hoping to read another one in this series this coming year.
For some reason I had never any of Lynn Austin’s books, so I decided to give one of them a try. I actually read two this past year and loved both of them! This one is set during the Civil War. I learn so much about what life was like during this time period by reading books like this. It was a great story of redemption and God’s grace.
This is the second Lynn Austin book that I read and I loved it. It was about a woman who takes a librarian job in a small rural community. While this was a little different kind of read, I really enjoyed it!
This was a great book! While the book is short, it is filled with encouragement for the tired and somewhat worn out homeschool mom.
This book by Faith Blum is the first in her Hymns of the West series. I loved it! If I recall, she was homeschooled and loves to write. This book was full of suspense and learning to trust in God.
7. Waiting for Summer’s Return
Another great book, set in Kansas, that deals with loss, and learning to trust and love again. So many lessons learned through reading this one!
This was another first for me – my first Melody Carlon book! This story dealt with a woman who had to make a new start. She learned to face the past, forgive, and put her trust in God. Loved, loved this book!
This was not a new book to me, but one I had never read. I love everything that I have read from Ruth Beechick and this was no exception. Highly recommended for homeschoolers!
10. The Fragrance of Geraniums
This was a hard read because the story was about three women who had gone through much hurt and sorrow. But it was an amazing read because of God’s love and mercy that is displayed in the lives of these women. Great book!
