Celebration of Fall and God’s Goodness {2013}

For the past several years, I have been trying to be more intentional in planning special fun times with the kids. Since my parents moved within 15 minutes of us over a year ago now, it has been fun to be able to include them in our fun times too. Last week we had a Fall Party…celebrating the beauty of Fall and most of all God’s goodness to us.
We started our party by doing our Thanksgiving Tree. I printed out these lovely leaves with thanksgiving related verses on them from Ann Voskamp’s site (love, love, love Ann!). I cut them out and poked paper clips through the stems. As we began our party we sat down together and wrote down things on the backs of the leaves that we were thankful for. We then shared them aloud….
…and then hung them on our Thanksgiving Tree.
We then had fun making these cute little acorns to eat.
You use chocolate kisses attached with some frosting to a bite-sized peanut butter sandwich cookie. Then attach a chocolate chip to the top of the sandwich cookie with a bit of frosting for the stem.
They turned out cute..and tasted pretty good too!
Next on the agenda was a relay race kicking a gourd along the sidewalk.
The kids had so much fun doing that, they decided to do another race by holding the gourd between their legs. Needless to say, there were a lot of laughs and fun going on!
Next we hid the pumpkins. From the time I was little, we always had fun hiding those little candy pumpkins around the house, and then finding them. (Sometimes we didn’t find all of them and would find them weeks later hidden around the house!) My kids have enjoyed doing that and always ask to play “hide the pumpkins” when fall comes!
Our final activity was a bean bag toss game. My dad took a large cardboard box and cut out a pumpkin face and painted a pumpkin on the box. The kids played a game to see who could get the most points getting the bean bags through the eyes, nose, and mouth of the pumpkin.
I am so very blessed to have such a wonderful family. It was such a joy to celebrate fall and the many things we have to be thankful for.
