Recently I have been reading a book called, Made to Crave by Lysa TerKeurst. Â As most of you know, I love reading about how to eat healthier and fix healthier meals. Â So when I saw this book it peaked my interest. Â I haven’t read it all the way through yet, but I am learning so much…and I’m not necessarily learning about good nutrition, I’m learning more about myself and about God! Â God made us to crave Him, and so many times we crave other things — food, possessions, relationships with people, love, acceptance, popularity, you name it.
Here is a short quote from the book:
God made us capable of craving so we’d have an unquenchable desire for more of Him, and Him alone. Â Nothing changes until we make the choice to redirect our misguided cravings to the only one capable of satisfying them.
Getting healthy isn’t just about losing weight. Â It’s not limited to adjusting our diet and hoping for good physical results. Â It’s about recalibrating our souls so that we want to change — spiritually, physically, and mentally. Â And the battle really is in all three areas.
As much as I love researching nutrition and health, this can also become a “god” if I am not careful.
Lysa shares so bluntly that it really is a matter of the heart…and what we are craving. Â As I have looked at my own heart, I can see how I have gone to other things besides God to fulfill some of my needs. Â I can see how I have used food at times, online time, reading good books, etc. Â The Lord is really convicting me that I need to crave Him and Him alone!
If you struggle at all with cravings for food or other things, this book will take you on a journey of learning how to be satisfied in Him…not only will you learn a healthier way to look at what you eat, but you will grow closer to God too. Â I highly recommend this book…it is truly life-changing!
