Historical Read-Aloud Books for the Younger Crew

A reader recently asked me for a list of my favorite historical read-aloud books to be read to younger children.  I compiled a list and thought I would share it in a post of its own.  We absolutely love our read-aloud times each day and really miss it when we don’t do it.  We have learned so much together!  While this list is geared toward the younger ones, my young ones listen in on harder books as well and learn a lot.  So keep that in mind..don’t limit yourself to just these.  You will be surprised at what will hold even your young ones’ attention!
Here is a list of some of our favorites:
Stories of Great American for Little Americans – This is an old book and one that I sell (ebook and softcover) or you can find it online here. Â This has a Kindle version you can load on your Kindle if you have one. This is a book full of short stories of great Americans.
Brave Kids-True Stories from American’s Past – Cora Frear
The Bravest Dog Ever-The True Story of Balto
I also love the YWAM biographies but they may be a bit hard for younger ones to listen to (although mine do). YWAM also has some younger versions of their books. I have not read any of these, but if they are as good as the original biographies..those are excellent!

The Heritage History CDs are another great resource for historical books to read aloud.
Do you have some favorite historical read-alouds that you have in your home library? Â If you have some to add, leave a comment with the title of the book! Â I am always eager to find some more good books :)!
