Cupboard Helpers

I thought I’d share a little tip that I am finding very helpful in my kitchen…I call them “cupboard helpers”.  As I have shared before, I have a Recipe Notebook where I keep all my recipes in a 3-ring binder.  I love this system, as it keeps all the recipes we like in one place.  I simply pull down my Recipe Notebook from the kitchen shelf and flip to the recipe I need make at the time.  If you don’t know how to make a Recipe Notebook, I have instructions here.  Give it a try…you will LOVE it!

Now…while I love my Recipe Notebook, there are some recipes that I use A LOT.  One example is my bread recipe.  Finally today I decided to use my “cupboard helpers” to save me some time and counter space in the future.  I got out a lined index card and wrote out the ingredients that I put into my Bosch Mixer to make my 5-loaf batch of bread.  I did not write out all the instructions on how to bake, as I have that memorized.  I just wrote out the ingredients list.  Here is a closeup…

I then taped it to the inside cupboard door that is right above my Bosch (where I always mix my bread).  You can see it in the first picture above.  It worked great today when I made bread.  I simply flipped open my cupboard door and the ingredient list was right there!

I also use “cupboard helpers” for information on our slicer.  We got a slicer to slice our bread, slice cooked meats for lunchmeat, slice cheese, etc.  I took a index card and taped it inside the cupboard door above our slicer.  I then wrote down the food and what setting to set the slicer on.  Now I don’t have to try to remember how thin or thick we like things.  I just open the cupboard door and there is the setting for me!

I’m sure you could come up with more uses for this simple kitchen tip.  I plan on making more use of my “cupboard helpers” in the future!

  1. I have both the Tylenol and the Motrin charts that give correct dosage amounts for children taped inside the kitchen cupboard where I keep those items. It has been very helpful over the years to have them so handy.
