Books Read This Week - 05-13

We finished up homeschool for the year last week and have been enjoying some extra free time this week. I am looking forward to getting some projects done around the house this summer and spending extra time making memories with the kids. These years just seem to fly by and I want to cherish each moment!

Here are the books I finished and the ones that I plan on reading this coming week.

3 Books I Finished This Week

Annie Henry and the Mysterious Stranger

Annie Henry and the Mysterious Stranger (Adventures in the American Revolution-Book 3) – We finished up this one this week in my read-aloud time with the kids and are going to be starting the last book in the series today. After we finish this series, we will begin reading some good literature that has been on my “to read” list for a while now. Should be fun!

How to Really Love Your Child

How to Really Love Your Child – As I shared with a friend yesterday, I have to be careful when I read parenting books especially, because my tendency is to want a formula. Just give me a “to do” list for how to raise my child and I’ll do it. But I know that is not the way to go about it and it is totally leaving God out of the equation. What I appreciated about this book is that it addressed how to really love your children — as the basis for all parenting. It talks about the importance of eye contact, appropriate physical contact, and focused attention and how vital these things are to filling our children’s love buckets. He talks about the fact that most of the time the problem is not that parents do not love their children, it is that they don’t know how to show them in a way that the child needs. Another topic he addresses is anger in our children and how to help them learn to rightly deal with it. This was an excellent book and one that I would recommend to any parent!

The Matchmakers of Holly Circle

The Matchmakers of Holly Circle – I enjoyed reading another one of Chautona Havig’s books this week. This one was a fun read and I was again amazed at how Chautona weaves in spiritual lessons in her books. Loved it!

Books I Plan to Read This Coming Week

Annie Henry and the Redcoats (Adventures in the American Revolution-Book 4) – We will be starting this one today in my read-aloud time with the kids. This is the last book in this series and they have been really good. It was a great way to end our study of the American Revolution!

Honey for a Child’s Heart – I had this on my Kindle, but recently ordered myself a hard copy. I wanted to have a physical copy that I could take to the library with me! I won’t actually be reading this whole book. I plan on reading the first half of the book which covers reading aloud to our kids and much more. The second half of the book is the book lists. I’ll skim over those just to give me a good idea of what is there. I have heard so many good things about this book and am excited to finally have a copy for myself!

Unforeseeable (Road to Kingdom #3) – I decided to go ahead and read this book this week and finish out this series by Nancy Mehl.

Confessions of a De-cluttering Junkie – I’m not sure I will get to this one this week, but I am going to try! Since one of my missions this summer is to de-clutter, I thought this would be a good read.

For the Children’s Sake -I am still making my way slowly through this book and really enjoying it. There is a lot to think about as I read, so it is taking me longer than I thought to finish.

Own Your Life – I am currently studying through this book with a friend. We read a chapter a week and then discuss together via email or Skype. This study has been so good and I highly recommend it!

  1. I read How to Really Love Your Child years ago and loved it. I think I now have How to Really love Your Teenager on my Kindle. I need to read that one too!
    1. I saw that he has several books out besides the one I read. I'll have to check into the teen one. I just really appreciated what he shared and made me look at parenting in a while new light.
