Having fun with the Kindle

Well…after researching and asking your opinion, I decided to go with the Kindle. We received it a couple weeks ago and have really been enjoying it. The kids are even enjoying reading books on the Kindle. My son sat and read a whole book in a couple days…it was a book I downloaded free from Amazon called, The Adventures of Grandfather Frog by Thornton Burgess. He loved it. Now you have to know that my son gets easily overwhelmed with lots of words on a page. After he finished reading the book, I asked him how he read it so fast. He said it was because on the Kindle he only saw one small page at a time. There weren’t as many words on the page, the print was larger (you can set the print size to what you want), and so it was easier for him to read. He didn’t feel overwhelmed. He could read a “page” rather quickly, click the “next page” button and on he went. So while I am enjoying the Kindle, my kids are too. I am currently reading Anne of Avonlea during our read-aloud time in the afternoon, which I downloaded free from Amazon. I actually have the whole Anne of Green Gables series now downloaded to read! Fun!
While there are a ton of free books on Amazon, you can download many, many classic books from other websites. They will often have a Kindle format you can download so that you can read it on your Kindle.
Here are a few of the books I have loaded on our Kindle:
Burgess Bird Book for Children
Beautiful Stories from Shakespeare
Various Animal Stories by Thornton Burgess
There are so many great books out there and I love that I can have them all in one place. I love ebooks, but sometimes it is hard to print them all out to read them aloud to my kids. We are loving the Kindle and it has been a great addition to our homeschool!
