My Notes:

In today’s podcast we are going to talk through some tips for how to get your body moving! Yes, we are going to talk about exercise!

Make a “Let’s Move” List

The first tip I want to share is that in order to even start implementing some exercise into your days, you need to have a list of activities that you could do to get your body moving.

I think when most of us think of exercise, we think of a 30 minute workout using a workout video, or going to the gym for a class. But I want you to try to get out of that mindset for now.

I want you to sit down and make a list of all the different activities that you could do to get your body moving. This could be things like:

  • take a walk
  • do a 15 minute workout video
  • ride on the stationary bike
  • lift weights
  • go for a swim
  • walk/run on the treadmill
  • play outside with the kids
  • go for a bike ride

As you make your list, I want you to make sure you have a variety of activities — some that don’t take a long time to do, and some that are a little more intensive.

Having a variety of activities to do will help you not get bored, as well as giving your body different types of exercise that work different muscles.

Once you have that list, let’s talk about what to do with it.

Put Your “Let’s Move” List in a Place Where You Will See It

This one is important, because when it comes time each day to do something to move your body, you don’t want to waste time trying to figure out what you are going to do.

I decided to use a sticky note app on my phone to put my list on. It is quick and easy for me to just open up the sticky note and there is my list!

You may want to put your list on your frig or in your planner/bullet journal. Whatever works for you. Just get that list in a place where you know where it is and can access it easily each day.

Set Aside Time Each Day to “Move”

Now the hard part — setting aside some time each day to move! We all know that every day is not going to go as we planned and some days we will have more time than others to exercise.  Here is where your list is going to come in handy.

At the beginning of the day (or the night before), look at your schedule for the day. Depending on how busy you are and how much time you will have to exercise, you can look at your list and choose an activity that will fit into your schedule that day.

Some days you may have more time and energy and will be able to plan a longer workout. Other days your time may be limited and a short walk is all you can fit in.

But I want you to remember that it is getting this “moving our body” into a habit that we are working on. I am a big advocate of baby steps, and I don’t want you to get discouraged because you are not doing a 30-60 minute workout every day.

Use that list you made to your advantage! Celebrate every time you choose to “move your body” each day. As this builds into a habit, you may find yourself enjoying this time! It becomes less of a burden and more a part of your daily life.

Next time…

In the next podcast I will be continuing the habit series. We will be talking about making cleaning and picking up the house a daily habit.
