I love sending and receiving cards at Christmas, but when it is all over with I hate to throw them all away. Well, I discovered something neat you can do with them that will bless others — Donate your used cards to the St. Jude’s Ranch for Children!

Donate Your Used Christmas Cards

St. Jude’s Ranch for Children is a charity which cares for abused, abandoned and neglected children.

They’ve got a recyled card program which they describe as follows:

“Our Recycled Card Program, an entrepreneurial teen-run job training program, teaches teens critical employment skills so they are prepared to be productive, wage-earning citizens in the community when they leave us.”

What they do is take your used cards and make new ones out of them which they then sell. You can learn more about the program here.

Only the front of the card is used, so any donated cards must not have writing on the back of the front picture.

I was so excited to find this, that I immediately rounded up our Christmas cards, sorted out the ones that I can’t send, and packaged up the rest to mail out today. I also want to note that they take all kinds of cards – get well, thank you, inspirational, birthday, etc.

What I do is label a folder in my filing cabinet for “Recycled Cards” and through the year I place cards in the folder. After Christmas is over, I go through them all and take out the ones that meet the criteria for the recycled cards program and send them on!

  2. I just sent an e-mail to St Jude's Ranch for Children asking if they were taking cards. (Dec 28, 2019) so will see. I hope they do - it seems like it could go to a good cause.
  3. I just spoke with a rep at St Jude's and he stated they were in the midst of updating the website to say they are phasing out the card recycling program.. Such a bummer.
