Homeschooling has been a part of my life for around 26 years. It is hard to believe that in another year I will graduate my last child from our homeschool. I have loved every minute of it — the time being home with my kids, the search for curriculum, new books coming in the mail, the joy of seeing my kids learn new things — I have loved all of it.
But as I get ready to enter my last year of homeschooling, I wanted to share some books that have been an encouragement to me. No matter where you are on your homeschooling journey, these books will be a blessing to you. Even though my homeschooling years are coming to a close, I will continue to be a mom and a wife, and these books are filled with encouragement for me.
Michael’s Gentle Wife by Karen Andreola – I recently had this book recommended to me, so I bought it and have started reading it. Wow! I am about 8 chapters in and am loving it. Even though I am no longer in the “baby” stage, this book has been such an encouragement to me! Karen has written a novel about a Christian homeschool family, who through the trials of joys of life, show their love for Jesus and each other in a way that inspires me to live the same. It is a hefty book, but is filled with such encouragement! Highly recommended!
Mother Culture by Karen Andreola – Yes, this is another Karen Andreola book! I love Karen’s writing and she has been a mentor to new and veteran homeschool moms. This book is not only for homeschool moms, but encourages moms as they care for their home and their family. Love this book!
Teaching from Rest by Sarah MacKenzie – This is a book I read years ago and it really encouragement me to take all my fears to the Lord. Back then my fears were different than they are now (being about done homeschooling), but the encouragement still applies. This is one you will read and re-read many times!
The Unhurried Homeschooler by Durenda Wilson – This book I read a few years ago and is another one that will encourage you to cherish the moments you have with your kids. It will encourage you to focus on what really matters. Durenda is a mentor figure to many and this book will not disappoint.
Unhurried Grace for a Mom’s Heart by Durenda Wilson – Since I loved Durenda’s other book, The Unhurried Homeschooler, I thought I would read this one as well. Wow! This one is more of a devotional book for moms, but each devotional is filled with wisdom from a mom who’s been there. The homeschool life can be filled with ups and downs. These devotions will help you to slow down and seek the Lord to see what He is trying to teach you through it all. Highly recommended!

While these books are not the only good ones out there, these are a few that have been especially encouraging to me. I hope you find a book or two to add to your summer reading list! Happy reading!
