Today we are going to look at the fourth thing mentioned in Ephesians 5 that helps to redeem the time…being thankful!

Always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God… – Ephesians 5:20

It is not easy at times to have an attitude of gratitude.  Our lives get messy, frustrating, hectic, and just plain hard.  It is on those days we find it difficult to find something to be thankful for.

When life is going good it is easy to be thankful…but when hard times come it is much more difficult.  But the Lord has commanded us to give thanks always for all things…and if He has commanded us to do so, then He will equip us to do it.

Just like anything in life that seems impossible in our own strength, with God all things are possible.

Making a habit of counting our blessings is a habit that will change your life!  My friend, Ann Voskamp, has written a book called One Thousand Gifts where she describes her own journey to living a life of thankfulness.

Actually giving thanks is so much more than just something we do…it should be who we are.  Our lives should be an offering of thanksgiving back to the One who has given us life to begin with.

When we focus on being thankful, it changes our perspective and helps us get our focus off of our problems and onto the Lord.

I want to encourage you to start today living a life of gratitude.  Here are some resources that might be helpful…

The Joy Dare Printables by Ann Voskamp – Printables for each month of the year to help you in counting it all joy!

The 1000 Gifts App – A neat App by Ann Voskamp that works on your iPad and iPhone!

280 Daily – An online journal to record your gratitude journal each day!

https://happyrambles.com/ – This looks like a very neat way to keep a gratitude journal!  Take a look!

You don’t have to make keeping a gratitude journal a complicated thing.  A simple lined notebook will work just fine too.  Start small…maybe 3 things a day that you are thankful for.  Day by day as you make gratitude a habit, I think you will find yourself not wanting to stop the counting of gifts.

Challenge:  Begin a gratitude journal this week!  Buy a pretty journal (or use one of the online options above), and start recording each day things you are thankful for.  I would love to hear about your own habit of gratitude.  Feel free to leave a comment and share with others what you plan to do or are currently doing to daily record what you are thankful for.  Prepare for your life to be changed!
