Over the years I have enjoyed making special cakes for my kids’ birthdays.  Sometimes I get a bit more creative than others, but it has been fun and the kids really enjoy it.

Making Birthdays Special with fun cakes!

I thought I would include some pictures of some of our fun birthday cakes…enjoy!

My son loves balls, so this baseball cake for his 4th birthday was so much fun for him!

My son also loves trains…this was my attempt! I baked 3 cakes in some bread pans..worked great!

Ok…my husband enjoys some fun cakes sometimes too..this was for his 42nd birthday..and yes we are OU fans!

A pretty heart cake for my oldest daughter on her 16th birthday.

Nothing too fancy about this one, but my daughter loved her cake on the pretty pedestal…can’t you tell by the look on her face?

Yes..I have some boys who love balls….another baseball cake for youngest son when he turned 2.

My husband found this neat stadium cake pan on sale quite a few years back. It has been used ALOT! Here my middle son is enjoying his stadium cake for his 6th birthday.

…and my oldest son is enjoying another stadium cake for his 11th birthday!

I did a ballet cake for my oldest daughter for her 17th birthday. She has taken ballet since she was little and thought her cake was really neat.

My youngest daughter really loved her doll cake for her 4th birthday. It turned out so pretty!

For some reason my youngest son wanted a butterfly cake for his 3rd birthday…I guess he was tired of balls! I just used some black licorice for the middle and candies for the wings. It turned out neat!

My middle son also loves fire engines…so we made a fire engine cake for his 7th birthday. He loved it!

A log truck was my son’s idea. He helped me build this cake and it turned out great for his 12th birthday.

  1. Thanks so much for sharing your cake creations! It reminded me that it's not the perfect cake our kids want but the love shared by giving of your time and energy. :) Also, when they get older, it's fun to have them work along side creating their special cake.
    1. You are exactly right, Jenny! The kids appreciate more my effort to make something special for them, and the memories made in the process!
  2. Those are great cake ideas! Thank you for sharing. Your kids are so sweet! I love their smiles! (((HUGS)))
  3. Love it - my Grandma made me a doll cake one year and it's the one I remember the most. I was hoping to do one for my daughter's next bday, but I can't seem to find the right kind of pan - all of the bundt pans are too shallow and the hole is too big...what kind of pan did you use?
    1. Hi Amy, The pan I use is actually a doll cake pan. I think it is made by Wilton specifically for that purpose. Here is a link to the Wilton site where you can find this pan: https://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?id=3E30A944-475A-BAC0-5E1F52DF76D8CE68 I hope that helps you see what the pan looks like. I have used is many times for my girls. You can also use it to make a football cake. Decorate it to look like half of a football! Have fun!
      1. Cool - I didn't know there was such a thing! I'll get one of these order, I'm sure I'll use it a lot over the years!
    2. You can also get a batter bowl from pampered chef and bake it in that, there is a recipe and instructions, too
  4. I too used to make special cakes for my kiddos. I took special care in it as well as a party for their birthdays until after their 10th birthday. I have made a firetruck cake and baseball cake, too. However, I think yours look a little better than mine did :)
