Simplifying My Cleaning Schedule

For the month of March, my focus will be on SIMPLIFYING MY CLEANING SCHEDULE.

In this post I want to share what I have done to simplify my cleaning schedule.  Later this week I plan on doing a post about simplifying my cleaning products…that will be fun!  But for today I want to address the cleaning schedule itself.

If you have a “system” in place that is working for you, then don’t change it…keep with it!  But…if you are needing some help in this area, maybe a few ideas I share here will be just what you need to get you started in setting up a cleaning schedule.

I have done different types of schedules through the years, but this is what I seem to keep coming back to and is for me the simplest way to schedule the cleaning chores.

In a previous post, I shared about how I am using the Mozilla Thunderbird with the Lightning (calendar) Add-On for my meal planning…well I have taken it a step further and am now using it for my cleaning schedule as well.   I added a calendar for my cleaning chores and it is working great!

I just imported my cleaning calendar into the Lightning calendar program (see the link below that you can use to import my cleaning calendar into your favorite calendar program).  I love having my cleaning set up this way because I can set up items to repeat daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or seasonally.  I took all my cleaning chores and set them up in this calendar so that each week I just print out my cleaning calendar and put it on the refrigerator.  The cleaning jobs are divided up between all of us and we get them done during our chore time.  As jobs are completed they are crossed off.  If for some reason we don’t get something done during the week, I use Fridays to catch up and finish those tasks that were not completed yet.

USE MY CLEANING CALENDAR TO GET YOU STARTED!

I have shared before how I set up my cleaning schedule at the Keep and Share website.  Well, since I originally set up my calendar there, they have started charging for their service.  I can still have a free account, but it is very limited.  I am not allowed more than one calendar and cannot offer a feed to my cleaning calendar any more.

Since I can no longer use the “feed” for my cleaning calendar at Keep and Share, I have gone in and set up a Google calendar for my cleaning schedule and replaced the Keep and Share feed link with the new Google cleaning calendar.  Use this link to import the iCal feed into any of your calendars such as Outlook, mobile phone calendar apps, or Google Calendar!

Here is the new iCal feed:  https://www.google.com/calendar/ical/6ob37c3uhurb1q3g1eeru9u37s%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics

You can find my cleaning calendar on embedded on my site here as well.  You will find the link under my Homemaking tab at the top of my site.

If you are needing some help with setting up your own cleaning schedule, my ebook Setting Up a Cleaning Schedule…That Works!, will guide you step by step with forms to help you set up a cleaning schedule that will meet the needs of your home and family.  Once you have your list of cleaning chores set up, then enter them into your calendar so that they repeat daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or seasonally.

While this is not something “new” I am implementing this month, my focus is more on getting into the habit of getting all the cleaning chores DONE!  I hope this encourages you to look at your “system” and see if there are some things you can do to simplify this area of your life!

  1. Sheri - thank you for sharing this! I have tried to download the iCal feed into my MS Outlook, but I am unable to - because I don't know how. Any help?
    1. I found this page in the Microsoft Outlook help website: https://help.unc.edu/CCM3_022163. It explains how to import the iCal file into Outlook. Just click on the feed link in my post and it will download the .ics file to your computer (probably in the Downloads folder). You will need to know where that file is when you go to import into Outlook. Just follow the directions at the link above. I hope that helps!
