Building a life with MORE than just “wood, hay, and straw”!

My five precious blessings!

I have had this post sitting in my “drafts” folder, not sure exactly what the Lord wanted me to do about it.  Now I feel the Lord nudging me to finish this post…to write out my thoughts and what the Lord has been doing in my heart.

Not too long ago I ran across these verses in my reading:

According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it.  For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.  Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work.  If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward.  If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.   1 Corinthians 3:10-15 NASB

My heart is yearning to build a life that is built on more than just wood, hay, and straw!  I want to grow in my walk with the Lord…to learn to see sin in my life for what it is..SIN..and to repent and turn from it so that I can walk in freedom.   I want to see my children walk this same path of repentance and freedom too.  I want to learn to love much…and only those that are forgiven much, love much.

So I have to ask myself if the “work” I am doing is accomplishing this.

Because of the work God is doing in my heart, I feel He is leading me to take a blogging break.  Besides having a busy summer (We are moving my parents from the west coast to live near us!  Yeah!), I really need the time to seek the Lord about my little home business, my blog, and how all this fits into His plan for me.

I thank the Lord for each of you and the encouragement that you have been to me.  Over the next month or so I will probably still post some, but not on a regular basis as I have been.  I am going to practice what I preach and put my priorities in line.  My time needs to be focused on my family right now and I pray that you will extend grace to me during this break.

I am so excited about what the Lord is doing in my life and look forward to sharing more with you at a later time.

May each of you have a blessed summer!  Enjoy each moment with your family.  Take the time to laugh, love, share, give.

Life is so short and my prayer is that you want your life built on more than wood, hay, and straw too!

Here are some previous posts relating to what God is doing in my heart:  Here, here, here, here, and here.  Finally, listen to this sermon by a young college student that preached last Sunday at our church.  I could not believe that the very topic he preached on is where the Lord has me right now…God is amazing!  Click here to download the mp3 file of this sermon.  It is excellent!

Many blessings to you,

    1. Thank you so much! I do plan on being back blogging, but probably with a different perspective and priority :). Have a great summer! God bless!
  2. Many of your posts seem to parallel what God is telling me in my life. This one is no exception. We each have to walk the path he leads us down. Our children are the most important part of building the house! Sometimes we have to slow down or let other things....good things.....take a back seat while we work more carefully on our house. Sculpting the details can take more effort, time, and concentration. Your willingness to slow down and change course says much about your commitment to the Lord.
    1. Thank you Janee. You are exactly right...It is hard for me to "take a break" or to say "no" to good things because I don't want to let people down. But the Lord is showing me that I need to look to Him and obey Him only..and He will lead me into the BEST things He has for me! Again, your encouraging words mean so much! Have a blessed day!
